Diverting from studying right now... too much chemistry can make you turn into a nutcase. Anyways, i was watching the special segment of the taiwanese news channel yesterday night. the 2300 news dedicates 5 minutes of its slot to showcasing the lives of needy children in taiwan. (they even have a short clip of jay chou singing 'snail')
Yesterday's segment was about this family that was so poor half the house didnt have a roof and the family had no electricity. the parents (as with quite alot of poor families) seem to have mental disabilities. the kids, however, were very lively and bright. the oldest one, a girl of about 7 years of age proudly showed the reporter her new clothes. (donated by charities in her area)
At one point, the girl told the reporter that she loved to study and feels that attending school wasnt enough. She wanted tuition as well because she so loved to learn. To that, the reporter asked, 'But does your family have the money for you to attend tuition.' The girl paused for a second, as if that thought never occurred to her, and replied, with the innocence of a child - 'No.' And then the segment ended.
I dont know about the rest of the people who watched the news last night, but i thought it was extremely blunt and unfeeling for the reporter to ask for such an obvious answer. With that one question she forced to little girl to give up her dreams of pursuing further education just because she was poor. With just one question she thwarted the dreams and hopes of the young girl. What a repulsive reporter.
