Back to the ER again!
So this ER rotation started very much the same way as it did approximately a year ago in VGHTPE.
By sending me on an OFF day on the first day of work.
Not that i dont appreciate it after a night of mild insomnia. Only thing is, i'd appreciate it if they'd told me beforehand prior to my daily cuppa. Sleep isn't the easiest thing to achieve when you're having palpitations from all that caffeine! Which is why I spent the AM in a mad room cleanup frenzy. Efficiency not to be wasted, what!
I'll be kicking off my course with 5 days of continuous night shifts. Talk about adrenaline rush! I hope I last all of 5 days, because the longest i've ever been on nights was 3 days in a row at VGHTPE ER and by day 3 i was pretty much a walking zombie. Sure, its still a 12hr shift and you get the other half of the day off just like you would with day shifts, but still in terms of sleep quality in the day... nah its still better without messing around with the circadian rhythm.
But I didnt really have a choice - it was either 5 shifts this week or 5 shifts the week after, which would be alot worse as i've a competition at the end of the month and i really dont need jetlag to add to the stress! all in all though, a pretty bad timing for ER rotation... no time for training and messed up sleep hours. -sigh- but well, no way i'd know in advance anyhow.
anyway! i had a ACLS refreshment course last friday which left me with a bruised palm from all the CPR. plastic models have VERY hard chests i tell you! it was a well-run course taught by a very funny man. but i couldnt help leaving the course with the scary realization that of all the CPR efforts i've taken part in (about 10?)... none were of standard. :O:O its no wonder NTUH decided to take down its CCTV in the ER! yikes.
