The 8th Pawnshop

I have been watching this show for awhile, and besides the fact that Alex To and Teng Shin are simply so delicious to watch, the storyline's really thought-provoking too. :)

Today's episode went something like this. Note that i would rather have this written in chinese but blogger doesnt seem to support chinese characters ugh.

-.-.-

The story begins with an ordinary couple. The husband is a genius computer programmer, who, because of his devotion to work, often neglects his wife. As a result, the marriage is in shambles. The man, who loves his wife dearly, decides to pawn his computer programming skills for the ability to understand his wife's innermost thoughts. After that, he was able to hear everything his wife thought. It was good initially, for he was able to cater to his wife's needs and the marriage seemed almost back on track. However, as time wore on, he was not happy, for he knew that his wife did not love him.

Disillusioned, he returned to the pawnshop, and this time, asked to have his computer programming skills back. In exchange, he pawned his sense of hearing.

At the same time, Dr. White (the personification of the righteousness the show) talked to the wife, and through his analysis, she finally understood the selfless sacrifice of her husband in attempting to win back her love. Touched, she made up her mind to treasure her husband more, and decided to make it up with her husband by arranging a dinner date with him. The husband agreed, bringing along a huge bouquet of lilies (her favorite flower) to the restaurant.

But just as he was crossing the road to the restaurant, a car sped towards him. Unaware of it despite its honking, he was eventually hit by the car, and died on the spot.

-.-.-.-.-

If there really did exist such a pawnshop, what would you exchange, and for what?

Some people pawn a life's achievements for beauty, others pawn their children's happiness for their own material enjoyment. Yet others, like the man in the story, pawn their talents and abilities for hope of attaining true love.

It all boils down to greed. It is with greed that the pawnshop exists and it is with our neverending greed that it continues to thrive.

Interesting isnt it? For a story, it sure makes you think alot...
