lazy mondays (and tuesdays)
sitting at the table with my notes opened in a dishevelled stack, piles haphazardly, tottering on the edge of my table. my mind is far away, out of biochem, out of my dorm, out of the constipated nation.
to my first day of school, not understanding for one bit what the words "hurry up" meant. warbling songs by sally yeh, wearing doraemon socks up to my meatloaf knees. afternoon siestas on the circus colored floors, caressed by the warm breeze, dozing off to the continuous replays of Fur Elise.
windy house. tree house. dead chicks lying decomposing on the sandy, gravelly ground. doggedly climbing up the gym bars. going for triple servings of fried rice, orange juice and crying over spilling the lunch mom packed for me.
chinese people were colored either yellow or orange, and no indian was complete without the big dot on the forehead. chewing gum on the bright green and yellow school bus. bump bump bump. rattle rattle. swallowing chewing gum accidentally. eating japanese glue thinking it was special vinegrette sauce.
checkered white and blue blouses, exuberant blue bloomers. sand in hair, bullying william. reciting chinese poetry, dressed in flamboyant pink pseudo-silk traditional chinese costumes in the theater. dancing a dance rehearsed a million times. hair tied up in two buns.
smiling, always smiling. loud, boisterous.
